Work through these tabs in order. Each one has a short lesson and a Your turn task below it. Do the thing yourself, that's how it clicks.

🧠 What is Notion?

<aside> 🏗️

Notion is a flexible workspace where you can organise your entire business in one place.

There's no single "right" way to use it. That's what makes it powerful.

</aside>

<aside> 🧱

Think of Notion like Lego. Each brick does its job perfectly. But the magic isn't in one brick, it's in how they connect. You build exactly what your business needs, in exactly the shape that makes sense to you. No two setups need to look the same. That's the point.

How this works

Each tab is set up to teach you one thing and on some pages there will be an exercise for you along with space to complete that task.

No need to do anything on this page other than click to the next tab.

🧱 How Notion is built

<aside> 💡

Once this clicks, everything else makes sense. Notion is made up of three things: blocks, pages, and databases.

</aside>

🧱 Blocks

<aside> 🧱

Blocks are the smallest unit of everything. Every piece of text, image, checklist, or table is a block. Drag them, reorder them, nest them. That's what makes Notion so flexible, you're not locked into a fixed layout.

</aside>

📄 Pages

<aside> 📄

Pages are your canvas. Mix any blocks you like. Pages can live inside other pages, like folders. You might have a page called "Client Work" with a separate page inside it for each client.

</aside>

🗄️ Databases

<aside> 🗄️

Databases are collections of pages that share properties. Every row is a full page you can open. Your content calendar is a database with a date property. Your product list is a database that maybe has category tags. Your client tracker is a database with pages that all have email address and status properties.

✨ How it fits together

<aside> ✨

Blocks live inside pages. Pages can live inside other pages. Databases are collections of pages with shared properties. That's it. Build from there.

</aside>

<aside> ✏️

Your turn

Spot the blocks on this page right now. The coloured boxes? They are blocks. The tab structure is a block. The text you're reading? Also a block within a yellow call out block. You're already inside Notion's structure.

🚀 Create your account

<aside> 🚀

Head to notion.so and sign up for free and answer the onboarding questions (there are just a few). You can use your Google account or create one with your email. The free plan is genuinely generous, you can go a long way before you ever need to upgrade.

</aside>

Step 1: Go to Notion

<aside> 1️⃣

Visit notion.so and click Get Notion free.

</aside>

Step 2: Sign up

<aside> 2️⃣

Choose Continue with Google (easiest) or enter your email. Follow the prompts to verify.

</aside>

Step 3: The setup quiz

<aside> 3️⃣

Notion will ask what you want to use it for. You can skip this or answer however you like, it just tweaks some starter templates. You'll be building your own setup anyway.

</aside>

<aside> ✏️

Your turn

Create your Notion account if you haven't already. Then come back and move on to the next tab.

</aside>

📋 Duplicate this template

<aside> 📋

Duplicating is how you get any Notion template into your own account. Once you know how to do this, you can use anything in the Notion template gallery, or anything I share with you 😜.

</aside>

Step 1: Find the button

<aside> 1️⃣

At the top right of any public Notion page, look for the Duplicate button. It looks like two overlapping squares.

</aside>

Step 2: Click it

<aside> 2️⃣

Click Duplicate. Notion copies the entire page (and everything inside it) into your own workspace. It takes a few seconds. You need to make sure you are already logged into your Notion account at the time.

</aside>

Step 3: Find it in your sidebar

<aside> 3️⃣

Once duplicated, the page appears in your sidebar on the left. There is also a tiny black pop up that appears that you can click on. This will take you directly to your copy when it is ready. It's yours now. Edit it, move it, make it your own.

</aside>

<aside> ✏️

Your turn

Duplicate this page into your Notion account right now. Use the button at the top right. Go on, you've got this.

</aside>

✍️ Write your first block

<aside> ✍️

Everything in Notion starts with typing. Click anywhere on a page and start writing. Press Enter to create a new block. That's it. You're building.
